Last Day Gift
Look at this adorable last day of school gift! A student gave this to me on the last day of school. His mother always had creative gifts throughout the school year, but I just had to share this one. I will have to remember to do this when my son gets into kindergarten.
Thank you, Blake!

Service Learning Project
Each year our grade level has to complete a service learning project. The past few years, our grade level has completed our service learning project with the local Shriners. Students and their families collect and bring in pop tabs throughout the school year. Our kindergarten students collected an amazing 75 pounds of pop tabs! The Shriners came the last week of school to pick up our collection. They surprised the students with the mini-corvettes! Not only did they drive them around for us; they also let the students sit in them! I am proud of our students for collecting for a cause!

~First Grade Common Core Math Assessments~
~Measurement~
My first grade Common Core Math assessments for Measurement are up at TpT. This covers standards 1.MD.1, 1.MD.2, 1.MD.3, 1.MD.4. There are 3 Assessments and a Pretest for each standard.
Included in the packet are graphs for students to keep track of their progress on each standard and classroom graphs to track the whole group. I have seen a lot of positive results from graphing student progress in the classroom this last semester! It's great to see the kids get excited as their "stairs" go up on their graphs as they work towards their goals!

The Zoo!
This is our last week of school here and we are wrapping up this week with some fun rewards for the kids. This first grade group is great and they have all worked so hard they deserve it! We went to the Evansville Zoo on Tuesday and it was a success. No band-aids, tears, lost kids and no one ended up in any cages!

2nd Grade Common Core Math Assessment
Our corporation, like many others, is making the switch to the common core standards. This means that all new assessments are needed to help track student performance. My fellow bloggers are working on Kindergarten and First Grade, so I decided to pitch in and do 2nd grade. This 'packet' has a pretest and 3 assessments, for CC Standard 2.MD.7, that you can use with second graders. All of the assessments have 5 questions and are uniform, so keeping track of individual or classroom progress is easy and consistent.

Daily Calendar News
When I was out blogging... I came across one of the best in creativity, Growing Kinders! It was almost as if we were thinking alike. Each year, about April, daily morning message begins to be "boring". The kids are less motivated and me too. I read Growing Kinders post on "Daily News" and decided that I would "personalize" it to my classroom needs. I have it up for a freebie on TpT. Just click here.
There is a section for "Number of Days in School" and tally marks.

First Grade Common Core Assessment 1.MD.2
There's nothing as great as a free assessment...other than having tomorrow off! Here is another set of assessments for the Common Core Standards. It covers the first grade math standard 1.MD.2. This standard involves using an object to measure other objects. There are three assessment and a pretest. All of the assessments within the standard are uniform, so keeping track of individual or classroom progress is consistent. It is available for free download at TpT here.
Have a Great Weekend!

Spring Planting
We wrapped up a unit on plants last week and the kids took some pretty puny marigold's home for our mothers for Mother's Day. Hey, it's the thought that counts right (and the kids were pretty proud of them so that's all that matters)! The kids also made this craft for their mom's and there were some pretty funny responses.
We also planted a Miracle Grow Greenhouse. I picked this up for $10 at Wal-Mart and it was worth the money! The kids loved. We are growing cucumber, yellow pepper, and tomato plants with this little greenhouse. When we were done planting and assembling, the kids had to retell the step we took to plant the greenhouse using the graphic organizer above. You can find it here for free.
This is such a fun group of kids to do any project with! They get excited about everything we do!
