Traditions

It is always fun to visit the track.  As a child, both Stephany and I had yearly traditions with our own families.  Sitting in the infield or on the corner or backstretch...  it didn't matter, as long as you're at the track.  It was always a tradition for my family to get a brickyard burger...  tasty!

Another tradition is listening to Back Home Again in Indiana.  Here is a link to Jim Nabors singing at the Indianapolis 500.  I just happened to find this one on YouTube.  It even has the playing of the Taps.
Have an enjoyable Memorial Day and remember...  It is never too late to start your own traditions!

Teacher Talk Tuesday: Donors Choose

It is so exciting to get these emails in the middle of the day!

#teachertalktuesday
If you haven't signed up for Donors Choose (I just typed cheese... Donors Cheese, wouldn't that be interesting?) yet then you are missing out. Seriously, go sign up now. Well wait until you are done reading this post and then go sign up! In the last few months I have got an iPod Touch, 80 containers for math tubs, six Hots Dots pens, the complete sets of math and language arts Hot Dot cards and a lot more!

I think it is intimidating for teachers when they think about the process. It really is EASY! You go to www.donorschoose.com and fill out your registration information. You have to verify what school you are from so they can make sure that you are actually a teacher and not some random school supply hoarder. Once you are verified, you get to shop through the catalogs from their vendors to find the materials that you need. After that you write up a super easy little blurb about why your students need these materials.

We have been funded these last few months pretty quickly by a local company. Some of my earlier projects were funded by oo.com and one by Starbucks. Once you are funded you just post 6 pictures of your kids using the materials and send some thank you notes to the donors. Donors Choose actually pays for postage and makes sure the letters get to the right places. It is BEYOND worthy of the little bit of extra work that you have to do. Now that summer is almost here it would be a great time to get a project started!

Five for Friday and a Freebie

It is Friday again!!  We are so lucky that our corporation has today off.  I dropped the kids off at daycare, went to pay some bills, went to our local Christian bookstore, got a pedicure and had Chinese for lunch.  It has been a pretty relaxing day.

We are linking up again with Doodle Bugs Teaching to share five random things from our week.
 1.  I received the cutest hand-made gifts from my boys from daycare.  Some of you may have already seen this.

2.  Stephany, Kathi and I have also been working on classroom theme packs.  If you plan on having a frog theme in your classroom next year, I have a freebie for you.  Click the picture below to link to the freebie.

3.  Stephany also has a Mixed Up Puppy Freebie that is great for some end of the year review.  There is a super awesome Teacher Appreciation Blog hop where you can get tons of great freebies for your classroom.  Click  HERE to go jump on board and pick up some goodies for next year (or this year if you still have time to cram it all in!).

 4.  Stephany also made some really neat flower pots with her first graders.  She purchased them at the Dollar Tree 4 for $1.00.  Then, students tore tissue paper into small pieces and used glue and water to paste the tissue paper onto the pots.  Then they sealed them up with some mod podge. Her students planted marigolds from the plant unit a few weeks ago and they transplanted them into the pots.  They were super proud of their little gifts because they were truely made by them from start to finish!  Here are a few pictures.  They turned out darling.

 5.  We are now super addicted to Instagram.  If you haven't started one yet, you need to.  Click the icon in #1 to go to Stephanie's Instagram.  Stephany's Instagram is below.

Crazy Town! (And a Freebie!)

Is anyone else living in that "Crazy Town" time right now?  It's the end of the year, grades are due, rooms need cleaned, things need organized, end of the year testing...and you're still teaching your kiddos!  And of course, you (as a compulsively dedicated teacher) are already planning and thinking of next year.  That's right.... as tired and worn out as you are, you are already thinking of how you can improve for next year...if so you are going to want to grab up these freebies!

Teacher Appreciation Week may be coming to an end, but the celebration isn't over yet!  Teaching Blog Roundup is teaming up with 20 of the best blogs to host this Teacher Appreciation FREEBIES Roundup blog hop.

Thanks for stopping by Primary Possibilities!  I would like to show my appreciation with this great freebie for you.  Seriously, whose night is spent with some creature sitting next to you watching patiently as you finish whatever teacher related activity you are working on... grading papers, working on data, creating resources?

I created this "Mixed-Up Puppy" freebie in honor of all of those four-legged, furry friends who wait patiently as we teachers work, work, work.  Grab up this sentence unscramble freebie by clicking on this picture below!

I'm glad you hopped by!  If you are new to my blog and liked what you see, don't forget to follow me!  Now head over to HoJo's Teaching Adventures to roundup the next FREEBIE!

We Appreciate You!

Calming The Chaos

Welcome to the Calming the Chaos Blog Hop hosted by 2peasandadog.
All of us bloggers have come together to share our top tips for making the last month of school run smoothly. Visit each of our blogs to learn something new and catch a freebie or two!
Happy Hopping

With the end of the school year approaching, it can get super chaotic. End of the year award ceremonies, field trips, assessments...it's hard to keep the students on track and even more... their behaviors in check. I will say that this has been a challenging week for my kiddos. They have had a hard time keeping quiet and getting along!

I made the little sign above and I hang on the whiteboard. Basically the kiddos can simply put a post-it note up reflecting on how their day was... Did they do their best? How could they have made their day or the day of someone else better?  How can they make tomorrow better?   This makes them reflect on some choices they made and how they could make better choices the next day.  I give the kiddos about 5 minutes right before they pack up at the end of the day to do this. Super easy! The kiddos love writing on post-it notes but you could simply have them write on the whiteboard. I have it up here free as a Google Doc for you all to download!
