Valentine Fun
Even though Valentine's Day is on a Friday this year. AND... It is a full moon... AND... our school had an early dismissal due to the 3-5 inches of snow that just poured down... We had an incredible Valentine's Day party. With the help of a parent, we were able to still get in our party. Here are some pictures from the party and early in the week.
Let's start with this adorable shirt!! I totally want one of these shirts.
Happy Valentine's Day,
Stephanie

We made our boxes on Monday. The kids were so excited about making their own monster box!
Every year I have students glue their valentines into a book. This Valentine Collection Book is the one that I use each year. It is free on TpT. It is made by the incredible Kindergarten Works!
Happy Valentine's Day,
Stephanie

Throwback Thursday Linky
We are excited to announce the start of a new linky! We are hosting ThrowBack Thursday the first Thursday of every month. This will allow busy teacher bloggers to feature a previous post or a blog post about one of their older (but awesome) products! Just be sure to include three things in your post. 1) The TBT icon above 2) The date of your original post 3) Be sure to link back up here to the linky.
So, we are kicking off this ThrowBack Thursday with a post that was originally posted on February 9, 2013.
We learned about Ben Franklin and inventors this week! I love history and it always cracks me up when you talk to first graders about anything that happened in the past. To them anything before their 6/7 years is history. Did you know Ben Franklin invented the first one of those "grabber" things to get stuff off the stop shelf that you can't reach? Forget the house saving lightning rod, bifocals, or experiments with electricity... he invented something that is in Infomercials today! If he only knew.
We read "Now and Ben" which I inherited a few years ago and I love it. We completed a Venn Diagram to go along with it. We also used Cara Carroll's idea from her blog (below) and came up with our own inventions. One of the kiddo's invention idea is a machine that makes you pancakes and bacon whenever you want them. He said it makes life easier because "EVERYONE LOVES BACON!" Another student wants to invent a flying car because our town is known for the MANY trains that go through daily! You could just fly right over the trains.. genius!
I was also really lucky to receive this handwriting booklet from Joey over at Create, Teach, & Share.
As we are getting into February, I am really cracking down on those few kids who are great readers and write excellent stories but whose handwriting leaves my eyes straining during editing! I love this because it is so easy to read, gets right (write? hehe) to the point and is just what these kids need. I plan on adding it to their homework sheets. You can find it HERE... also go check out her blog and show her some blog love for Valentine's Day!

February Currently
It is time to link up with Farley's Currently this month!! I can not believe that it is already February. I used several different fonts in the image above. All of these fonts are created by Stephany. Here is the link to the product. It has over 50 fonts!!
We live in southern Indiana. I have been reading the newspaper, listening to the radio and even watching the local forecast frequently over the past several days. Some say we are supposed to get 18 inches of snow this week. Others say that we are only getting some ice and maybe some accumulation. I have no idea what is expected. All I can say is that I do not want anymore snow days. Now I am not saying I don't like the occasional 2 hour delay. :)
Our boys just had a basketball game at the local YMCA this morning. After the game, my husband dropped off the boys and I at school so that I could get some things finished. Then, he went to the grocery store and took the SUV to the car wash before returning to get us. It has been so long that our vehicle has looked so clean. With all the salt, sand, ice and snow, I never thought I would see a clean vehicle again.
I mentioned that my husband went to the grocery store. I sent him with a list of all the yummy junk food that we needed for Super Bowl. I am not much of a football fan; however, I enjoy the Super Bowl for the delicious junk food!!
Valentine's Day is approaching and I seriously need to finish this Valentine Math Station Unit that I have been working on. I have started and really like what I have, but matching Common Core standards and making sure the information is accurate is time-consuming. Hopefully, I get it finished so that my students get to use it this year. :)
Truth: I really do like to go to the dentist to have my teeth cleaned!! I love the feeling when I come out. People must think I am crazy!!
Truth: I really did get married in pants!! I wanted a small wedding, after dating for 7 years. I wore a white pant suit.
Fib: Even though I enjoy the Super Bowl, I do not like to watch football every Sunday. I enjoy so many other sports and I enjoy watching football in person. I just do not get into it every Sunday.
Speaking of 2 truths and a fib... I have a freebie that is called 3 Facts and a Fib. If you are interested, click here.
Enjoy!!
Stephanie
