Halloween Fun in the Classroom!

We have been celebrating Halloween (one of my favorite holidays) this week with some fun activities from Elyse over at Proud to Be Primary!  These are great activities for Halloween day... I know my students are pretty worked up and excited about Trick-or-Treating and dressing up on Friday night so I know I have to find some fun ways to engage them on Friday during the day.  

We're also using Primary Inspired's "I Spy Sight Words" pack this week in our Word Work Rotation.  (My student last year LOVED these, so I am so excited to introduce my students this year to them!)

Here are some other EASY and QUICK activities that you can use tomorrow to fill in the gaps (meaningfully) between Halloween craziness!

Word Collection Fun!

You know how kids love to "collect" things... especially at recess- rocks, bugs, sticks- you name it and you have probably had them try to "collect" it.  So I was excited to be able to use this word collection printable from The Reading Mama.

 First, you easily assemble the book which is all in black/white (easy on the ink).  It is also a half page booklet and can be printed front-to-back (easy on the paper).  

Students "collect" words as they work through word families or short vowels.  They can use the pictures provided or they can add their own words and draw a small picture of the word.

I had my students place these in their book boxes so they can look at them, read them, and add on to them anytime they want to.  They were so excited to be able to have their own little collection of words that they can read!

Anchor Chart Freebies

Fun with Jack-O-Shapes!

We are learning about shapes this week in first grade and we used this super fun activity from Totally Sweet Math Centers by Tabitha.  This is great activity to use in your interactive math notebooks!

Students cut out both sides of the flaps and glue them down in the books.  

The shape pictures that go under the flaps are objects found the in the real world.   The kiddos loved the pictures and examining them to find out how many sides they had.
